Over the past few years I have become frustrated with the expense of the cosmetics I use on a daily basis. Also, being 46 and with a recent weight loss, my facial wrinkles have deepened. Being a fair skinned person who unwisely baked in the sun for years I find that my skin-tone is very uneven. My skin tends to be dry and I suffer very few blemishes or other problems. So I thought I would experiment with some of the DIY cosmetics recipes circlulating on sites such as Pinterent and various makeup blogs. Below is a self-photo of me wearing only the cosmetics I made, lipgloss, eyeliner and mascara. The photo is unretouched. Also, I wore the new formulas I made to a performance of our Christmas show last night and recieved several comments on my skin. Ha!
I spent NO money on the products. I already had them in my home. The basics items needed are:
***Organic Cococut Oil (I used Spectrum brand bought at Ingles) Benefits include vitamins A,D, E, C, and many antioxidants as well as terrific moisture. Contains anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties too.
***Cocoa Powder
***Corn Starch
***Spices
***Mineral pigmented powder (optional for concealer)
The first product I made is a tinted moisturizer:
Mix coconut oil with an equal amount of cornstarch then stir in cocoa until a color to match your skin is achieved. It is so smooth and is the texture of whipped frosting. I just scooped mine into an empty pot I had in my drawer.
The next product is a loose powder. It adds a little coverage. Just start with equal parts corn starch and cocoa and add cocoa to match your skin tone. I also opted to add a pinch of cinnamon and cloves to tint it a little to the warm side. By the way, it smells amazing!
I feel good about the products and think I will use them for a while and see if they have good shelf life and if they suit me over time. I love the price! Just thought I would share what's going on here. Let me know if you have any other tips. Of course, you will want to be careful to do a test area to check on sensativity or allergies. Use at your own risk...
