What would you do differently if you knew the world was ending in less than a month? I'm not asking about silly things like eating all the donuts you want, running up a credit card bill, or dropping out of school... I'm asking about boiling down priorities to the bare essentials. What would be the top few things that would burn on your heart? What things would matter most in light of eternity being brought down upon you and those you live with absolute finality, and sooner than later?
Here is what all the buzz is about. It seems that as best scientists can tell, a few ancient cultures, most notably the Mayans, had a drop off in their cyclical calendars coming to some sort of transition or end next month.
"Both the Hopis and Mayans recognize that we are approaching the end of a World Age... In both cases, however, the Hopi and Mayan elders do not prophesy that everything will come to an end. Rather, this is a time of transition from one World Age into another. The message they give concerns our making a choice of how we enter the future ahead. Our moving through with either resistance or acceptance will determine whether the transition will happen with cataclysmic changes or gradual peace and tranquility. The same theme can be found reflected in the prophecies of many other Native American visionaries from Black Elk to Sun Bear." — Joseph Robert Jochmans
So what if... Does it scare you? Does it give you anxiety? Do you want to laugh it off? This stuff is not just for crazies! The truth is that, one day, those who belong to Jesus will be raptured or taken up into the air from their graves. Those already gone will come along with Christ to meet us in the air, and an time of ghastly and dire tribulation will ensue. This period will end with the return of Christ and His 1000 year reign, followed by the last judgement and the destruction of Earth, and creation of a new Heaven and new Earth. Scripture teaches that know one knows the day or the hour of Christ's return. (Matt. 24:36) But God's word is also very clear that time is winding down. All prophesies that need to be fulfilled prior to the rapture of the church have been completed.
It seems that we who walk with Jesus get caught up in the activities of our daily lives. We live in such comfort that we often fail to long for that day. We forget that that day that will be such joy for us, will usher in the agony of permanent separation from God for so many. We forget that to live on Earth after the preserving salt of the Church has been removed will be awful. It will unleash unspeakable but just wrath on creation and evil will surge forth in its final attempt to defy the Almighty
So no matter what happens when day dawns December 21st, It's good news for those who are in Christ. But for those who are not, every dawn is to their peril. So what do we do?
1. Receive salvation- Romans 10:9-10, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
2. Receive assurance of your salvation- 1 John 5:20, "And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life."
3. Tell those you love- Matt 28:19-20, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
It is very good for us to read and try to understand the end-times teachings of scripture. We need to know that God's word is the source of all truth, not the writings of calendars of the man made sort. But we need to live with urgency and expectation. We need to view the current events from and eternal perspective. We need to prepare and long for Christ's return.
Think about these words from Isaiah 46:9-10, "Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, “My purpose shall stand, and I will fulfill my intention,”
I love the phrase "declaring the end from the beginning"! God has known and been telling us all along that the end was near... we see it in the Heavens, the weather, the planet and the news. We don't need the Mayans to tell us. We just need to remember to act like we are taking it seriously. Jesus is coming soon, are you ready?
